Data Scientist - Autopilot Safety

🏢 Tesla • 📍 Palo Alto, CA

Job Description

Tesla is on a mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. The Autopilot team is looking for a Data Scientist to help make self-driving cars safer for everyone. You will analyze vast amounts of data coming from millions of Tesla vehicles on the road today.

What is Data Science at Tesla?

Imagine every car is like a student learning how to drive. Every time a car makes a mistake or does something perfectly, it takes a 'note' in its digital notebook. Your job is to read all those millions of notebooks and find patterns. For example, you might find that cars have trouble seeing a certain type of traffic cone. You then help the engineers teach the cars how to recognize that cone better. You turn raw numbers into life-saving decisions.

Core Duties

  • Develop machine learning models to predict driver behavior and road conditions.
  • Clean and process large datasets using SQL and Python.
  • Present findings to the engineering leadership team to guide hardware updates.
  • Work closely with the AI team to improve neural network training.

Requirements

We are looking for someone with a strong background in statistics or mathematics. Experience with Python (Pandas, NumPy) and machine learning libraries like PyTorch or TensorFlow is required. You should be a problem-solver who isn't afraid to dive deep into messy data.

Why Join Tesla?

Tesla is not just a car company; it is a technology company. You will work with the brightest minds in the world on projects that have a direct impact on the environment and human safety. We offer stock options, health insurance, and a dynamic work culture.
